Bangsaen and Saensuk officials paint new zebra crossings across city, say will improve pedestrian safety

Bangsaen/Saensuk-

Personally led by long-time Saensuk mayor Narongchai Khunpluem, the younger brother of Pattaya mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem, dozens of Saensuk officials, law enforcement, politicians, and volunteers painted and refurbished both existing and new zebra crossing across the area.

According to Narongchai, more commonly known by his nickname Tui, the painting is in response to an accident last month in Bangkok in which a young female doctor was killed by a speeding police officer on a motorbike while trying to cross the road which led to a nationwide conversation about the safety of road crossings.

Naronchai told his social media, which is credited for the photos in this article from his Facebook, that the step of repainting and improving crosswalks in Bangsaen will make pedestrian crossings safer for everyone.

Critics on social media, however, while admitting that repainting and improving the visibility of crosswalks is helpful, continue to state that a much bigger issue and key to the “puzzle” of safe pedestrian crossings is enforcement by police and driver education.
