Thai Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration to hold large meeting this Friday, finalize provincial zones and restriction measures

Thailand-

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced this morning at their daily press conference that they would be having a large meeting with relevant agencies this Friday in Bangkok to finalize proposed measures and drafts for changing provincial zone designations and restrictions around the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The Pattaya News originally announced this on social media accounts this morning along with our recap of the Covid-19 situation in Thailand.

A proposal has been made to change zone status to multiple zones after improvement in the Covid-19 situation in the country. Although the number of overall cases at a glance appears to be high, nearly all are coming from a single province (Samut Sakhon) and in migrant worker-related quarantine centers, accommodations, and factories where the workers are not allowed to leave. The amount of “local-spread” in the general community has been steadily reducing across the country according to the CCSA, especially in the Eastern provinces.

Chonburi, Rayong, Trat, Chanthaburi, and Samut Sakhon were all previously classified as highly controlled provinces bringing with them travel restrictions and tough closure measures, along with other rules and regulations meant to control the Covid-19 virus.

A draft proposal of the changes presented this morning shows that only Samut Sakhon would remain classified as highly-controlled and only Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani would be classified as high-control zones. The orange zones, also called regulated, are where Chonburi, home of TPN Media, is located. It is important to note that the overall rules and regulations surrounding this status are NOT final until the meeting this Friday.  Therefore, technically, restrictions such as travel-related measures remain until that date.

The majority of restrictions and measures are expected to be discussed and clarified on Friday, however, there are no guarantees or promises for the lifting of any regulations. The Chonburi governor decided to re-open massage shops and a few other venues today, following a similar announcement from the Rayong governor yesterday.

The Pattaya News will give full updates on the results of the meeting this Friday. It is important also to note that the provincial governors also have “leeway” to make decisions once the control measures are announced, including strengthening measures, and just because the CCSA says something “can” open doesn’t mean the governor will allow it based on province.

Orders and clarification from the Chonburi governor on what (if anything) will be allowed to open are expected after the CCSA meeting, although an exact time-frame was not given.

Chonburi has recorded no cases of Covid-19 for the past six days and only one in about ten days.
