Thai Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration announces 198 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, most in Samut Sakhon

Bangkok, Thailand-

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, announced a total of 198 new confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus had been found in Thailand in the last 24 hours, the majority in epicenter Samut Sakhon.

Of these cases, 180 were domestic and 18 were imported from people entering the country from overseas who entered directly into quarantine.

Of the 180 domestic cases, 111 were from active case finding/targeted mass testing which primarily took place in field hospitals and quarantine centers where the population has no exposure to the general public, primarily migrant workers. 107 of these cases were in Samut Sakhon and the other four were from Bangkok.

The remaining cases were domestic cases and were mostly in Samut Sakhon with 56 cases. Of the rest, Bangkok had 5, Ang Thong 1, Samut Songkhram 1, Samut Prakan 1, and Rayong 1.

There was an additional death, an 81-year-old Thai man who had multiple severe health issues and prior problems, and advanced renal failure.

The CCSA also reaffirmed previous statements that they do not plan to evaluate measures like restrictions and closures in “highly controlled” provinces like Chonburi until the very end of the month, January 31st.  This is unfortunate news for business owners and staff who were hoping that the greatly reduced numbers would lead to an earlier release from the measures.
