Gold robbery gang leader in Banglamung known as The Golden Bird arrested in Rayong after almost a decade on the run

A highly wanted suspect in Banglamung was arrested in Rayong yesterday.

The suspect is the alleged head of a gold shop robbery gang in Rayong who reportedly sped away with two million baht worth of gold and is also accused of one of his gang members killing a police officer. The alleged crimes took place over a number of years going back as far as almost a decade.

A team of police led by the Nongprue Police Chief Colonel Chitdaecha Songhong have arrested 36 year old Suttirat ‘Nok’ Prapanpat at a petrol station in Rayong following arrest warrants of seven gold robbery cases in the area over a period of several years. In the Thai language Nok means bird and the thief reportedly went by and embraced the nickname “Golden Bird” after Thai press branded him with the title.

Police stated to the associated Thai press that Nok was the head of a notorious gold shop robbery gang. The gang had reportedly snatched gold from shops in Rayong and had stolen more than two million baht worth of gold. One of the gang members allegedly killed a police officer while the gang was escaping nine years ago.

Nok was taken to a police station to face further legal action and his multiple arrest warrants. He did not release a statement to the press and remained silent. He had been on the run for almost a decade.
