Koh Larn, Chonburi-
Koh Larn today (January 21st) has re-opened for visitors again after a 16-day Covid-19 related closure. According to Bali Hai Pier officials, ninety percent of people who were traveling to Koh Larn today were local Banglamung and Koh Larn residents.
Mayor Sonthaya Khunploem told The Pattaya News yesterday (January 20th), “An order from the Koh Larn council regarding the closure of the island will end today (January 20th). Koh Larn has now zero confirmed Covid – 19 cases as a result of the closure for about the past two weeks.”

The first day of the re-opening under strict Covid -19 measurements saw some visitors and many Koh Larn locals at the Bali Hai pier heading to Koh Larn.
From 7:00 A.M. to midday there were about 154 people who took the ferry or a speedboat to the island of which 90 percent of them were people who lived on Koh Larn while ten percent of them were visitors. The people who lived on Koh Larn were an assortment of people who either chose to ride out the temporary closure on the mainland which had fewer restrictions or those who were traveling to and from the island for the first time in two weeks to go shopping or run other errands.
Koh Larn locals had to present ID cards while visitors had to present ID cards or a passport, check-in on the ‘Thai Chana” platform, and show officers they have downloaded and are using the “Mor Chana” tracking and tracing platform. All people visiting will need to have a temperature check, use hand sanitizer, wear a mask, and socially distance on the ferry which is being run at limited capacity for safety reasons.
If anyone shows a Mor Chana QR code that is orange or red, they are not allowed to enter Koh Larn. The re-opening of the island is intended for local residents as Chonburi remains a “highly controlled” zone that requires written permission to enter or leave the province.
Boats leave from the pier from 7:00 A.M. to midday and 3:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Returning boats leave from Koh larn at 7:00 A.M., 9:30 A.M., midday, and 5:00 P.M.
Although not every venue is back open for business on the island some restaurants, hotels, and other businesses are now open. Rules that apply for the entire province of Chonburi, such as bars being closed and alcohol not being allowed to be sold at restaurants, apply to the island as well according to Bali Hai officials.
The tighter restrictions to enter the island are set to last until at least January 31st said the Pattaya Mayor to our reporters.
