Indian restaurant catches fire in Pattaya and alarms local residents

Pattaya, Chonburi-

An Indian restaurant fire has alarmed locals in Pattaya last night (January 8th).

The Pattaya City Fire Department was notified of the fire at 10:30 P.M. at the Spicy Treat, a closed Indian restaurant on Pattaya Second Road on Soi 16 not far from Walking Street. The restaurant is next to a large 7-11 and many other restaurants and businesses, most of which are also closed.

Firefighters with three fire engines and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find lots of smoke coming from the restaurant. Many local residents were at the scene observing the incident.

Electric to the building was cut off while firefighters were putting out the fire. It took about 30 minutes in total to put out the fire, according to fire department officials.

The head of the South Pattaya Fire Department, Mr. Surachart Kerdprach, told The Pattaya News, “This particular Indian restaurant had already been closed for a long time like the majority of similar restaurants in this area that previously catered to Indian tourists. Due to Covid-19, most of these restaurants closed due to lack of customers because of border restrictions.”

“This fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit from the kitchen.”

However, the Chonburi Forensic Police are conducting an investigation to find the exact cause of the fire but do not believe any foul play was involved at this time.
