Man searching for papaya finds live hand grenade instead in Chonburi

Chonburi-

A man who was searching for papaya was shocked after he found a live hand grenade in Chonburi instead.

The Pan Thong Police was informed by a local resident that a grenade was found in a garbage pile near a housing estate in Pan Thong yesterday (November 1st).

Police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived at the scene to find the M26 hand grenade with a remote control inside a white box.

Captain Anak Kruakuenpetch of the EOD police said, “The grenade was in “100% working condition. This explosive has a range of up to 20 metres.”

Mr. Sukhawut Wichada, 48, who first discovered the grenade said, “I was searching for papaya before I found this.”

“I know it was a grenade. I ran away before calling the police.”

Pan Thong police are working on identifying the owner and where the grenade came from.
