Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said that the CCSA, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-O’Cha, has agreed to extend the emergency decree for another month, from October 31 to November 30, to prevent the local spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus.

The extension, however, is not yet officially approved until the panel proposes the matter to the cabinet at the meeting tomorrow, October 27. It would be the seventh time for the decree extension if the cabinet has eventually agreed on another extension in November, the spokesman stated.

The emergency decree has been in effect since this April and allows the government to restrict arrivals, follow up suspected cases of Covid-19, and impose disease control measures on all business and public activities.

The CCSA believes that by extending the decree, Thailand would maintain its low cases of local transmission and its citizens would remain secured and safe against the Covid-19 coronavirus during the first step of the country’s re-opening to some tourists through the Special Tourist Visa program in November.

Dr. Taweesin further stressed that the extension does not relate to the political tensions and movements of the pro-democracy demonstrations in the country.
