Pattaya lifeguards patrol area beaches with new towers, gear and vehicles

Pattaya-

Lifeguards are patrolling Pattaya and Jomtien beaches daily, even though not many tourists are currently in the country.

Mr. Tanawan Damrongsiri, a staffer at the Marine Safety Control Centre told The Pattaya News that even though there are not many tourists and beachgoers, lifeguards are still patrolling beaches for safety.

At Pattaya beach and Jomtien beach, there are two lifeguard towers with three lifeguards stationed at each tower daily.

Lifeguards are also present at five swimming areas. For Central Pattaya each two of them are on the beach near Soi 1, Soi 6 (lifeguard tower), Soi 9, Soi 11 (lifeguard tower) and Soi 13/2.

Their working hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day. They are also patrolling on an ATV vehicle along 2.7 kilometres on the beaches daily.

Pattaya has had lifeguards for years, however only recently has significantly stepped up the program in response to several publicized drowning incidents. The additional gear, towers and staff are all part of a larger plan by the Marine Safety Division and City Hall to improve the safety of area beaches.
