Sattahip welcomes US Military as USS Green Bay arrives for Cobra Gold exercises

Sattahip naval base in Chonburi has welcomed 800 soldiers on the USS Green Bay for Cobra Gold military exercises this afternoon.

Deputy Commander Captain Prasong Chamanee of the Royal Thai Navy force welcomed the USS Green Bay led by Captain Michael Harris of the US military.

They will join the Cobra Gold military exercises for 2020 on February 25 to March 6 with a total of about 4000 US soldiers and many other countries also participating.

The exercise features humanitarian aid and disaster relief drills as well as to strengthen the relationship between Thailand and the United States.

Cobra Gold annual exercises are considered one of, if not the, biggest military exercises in the Asia-Pacific region.

This year 29 countries are participating in full military training exercises from seven countries who are the US, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia.
