Chonburi-
An intoxicated couple were involved with a domestic disturbance earlier this week with each other before their shelter was burnt down in Panthong, according to Panthong Police.
Lieutenant Colonel Songphon Thontarb of the Panthong Police was notified of the incident at a small shelter near Nong Tamlueang Temple at 11:50 PM on Monday night.
Firefighters with several fire engines and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find the shelter which had been totally destroyed. It took about 30 minutes to put out the fire.
Ms. Ranee Somsiriwattana, 43, claimed to Panthong Police that her husband had a mental health problem and regularly attacked her.
According to Ranee, he tied her hands and legs before putting her on a bed. After that he allegedly burnt the shelter down with her inside. She claims she managed to free herself and then called for help.
Mr. Sommai Sunalert, 53, however, had a completely different story. He told Panthong Police he had not burnt the shelter or harmed his wife. He stated that his wife allegedly burnt the shelter instead. He also said that she had just reportedly been released from Srithanya Hospital (mental health hospital).
Panthong police arrested both of them and will review the incident further. Police stated that both suspects were highly intoxicated and it was difficult to determine whose version of the story was correct.
