A motorbike driver who survived after a high speed collision with a pickup truck in Pathong believes he has been helped by a special religious amulet.
Caption Prasart Amornpanthong of the Panthong Police was notified of the accident on Saturday night in the Baan Kao sub-district.
Police and emergency rescue staff arrived at the scene to find a wrecked Honda CBR 650F on the road.
The driver, Mr. Teerachai Susane, 25 had sustained only very minor injuries.
Rescue workers found a damaged pickup truck nearby. The driver, Ms. Rattanaphon Sutthisa, 36, was at the scene and also uninjured.
Teerachai told police that he was unable to avoid the collision with the pickup truck driven by Rattanaphon at an intersection.
Teerachai told Captain Prasart that he thought he would die when he was thrown off his bike without proper protective gear during the high speed crash. However, he stood up shortly after the crash with nearly no injuries. He attributes the survival to a religious amulet he has on his vehicle at all times, which he believes protects him from harm.
Captain Prasart and rescue workers, however, attributed the survival of Teerachai to “sheer luck.” It is unclear if charges will be placed in regards to the accident.
