Thai Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration says proposal for extension of visa amnesty being proposed

Bangkok-

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, made a very brief statement today at a daily press conference regarding Visa amnesty.

Thailand issued a visa amnesty several months ago to foreigners in the country who were stranded or unable to return home. That amnesty was eventually extended until the end of July. The visa amnesty is set to expire at the end of this month, July 31, and there have not been official announcements regarding the amnesty until today.

Mr. Natapanu Nopakun, the English spokesman for the CCSA, said today during a press conference that a third proposal of extension for visa amnesty is being drafted and reviewed by relevant agencies. He also said to stay tuned for further announcements from Thai Immigration in the very near future.

The Pattaya News notes, however, that this is a proposal and not a guarantee or promise that the amnesty will be extended. Mr. Nopakun also did not state if there would be any conditions or requirements regarding any potential proposal. The Pattaya News has previously stated our editorial position on visa amnesty here. The moment more official information has been released we will discuss that here at The Pattaya News.

Update: A report from Associated Press has stated that the proposed amnesty will be more of a “grace” period to secure a regular visa or leave the country and is likely to last until near the end of September. This is not yet confirmed officially by Thai Immigration.
