Bangsaen Beach packed, road access temporarily closed due to crowding concerns

Bangsaen Beach-

Popular Bangsaen Beach was heavily crowded this morning and early afternoon leading to traffic police and local officials to temporarily close road access to the beach, disappointing many potential visitors.

Police Lieutenant Kriangkrai Phutthawong, who works with the traffic police at Saensuk station, said the car parks and surrounding areas were completely full and decisions had to be made to restrict further arrivals to the beach temporarily this afternoon to ensure proper physical distancing and control potential crowds.

Multiple photos of traffic backed up for long distances were shared and went viral on various social media websites.  The Pattaya News notes that this weekend is the last full weekend before the school semester starts this Wednesday and many families, especially from Bangkok, decided to hit the beach as a result.

Kriangkrai also stated that police were enforcing the rules on “no alcohol or parties” that had been put into effect by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration and local government officials. He warned that violators could face strict punishments and consumption of alcohol on the beach was still prohibited to help discourage loosening inhibitions that may cause lack of social distancing.

Traffic Police released and re-opened roads throughout the afternoon as they balanced traffic versus not overcrowding the beach.
