Underground cable project kicks off on Pattaya Walking Street, expected to take one year

Pattaya-

The Pattaya City Mayor yesterday (February 1st) inspected the kick off on the underground cable project on Walking Street which is expected to last the entire year.

The Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume yesterday morning inspected the construction with relevant city officials at the kick-off event.

Mr. Sonthaya told The Pattaya News, “The first phase for the underground cable project along Pattaya Walking Street will take 360 days from January 13th 2021 to January 8th 2022.”

“The total budget for the first phase is at a cost of 103.3 million baht.”

“When the underground cable project on Walking Street is complete, it will support the NEO Pattaya concept and the EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) project.”

“This is one of the projects in Pattaya which will help develop the city and the province. Businesses on Walking Street will be open as normal during the project and we will do the work in sections to avoid as little as possible disruption to business and customers.” The Mayor concluded.

The project involves moving the long standing eyesores of the wires and cables that run above and across Walking Street below ground which will improve not only the look and feel of the area but also avoid semi frequent power outages and other problems.

Following the project the city is looking at potentially installing a retractable roof over Walking Street to improve the look and feel of the area and provide shelter during rain. The city is planning to improve the look and feel of the area in an attempt to make the popular street not only a nightlife venue but also a popular daytime shopping destination. The city states there are no plans to tear down a side of the street or get rid of nightlife but instead want the street to have a world class look and feel and be fit for daytime and night time use.
