Egyptian Man Attacks Taxi Driver and Damages His Taxi in Phuket

Cherng Talay –

An Egyptian man attacked a taxi driver and damaged his taxi car in Cherng Talay on Friday night (March 22nd).

Captain Khajonkiet Kamwichairat of the Thalang Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the incident at 10:30 P.M. on the day in question from Mr. Suriya Plodmai, 34, from Nakhon Si Thammarat. He told police that a foreign man attacked him and damaged his taxi car in Soi Bang Tao 4/3. Police arrived at the scene to find the SUV taxi whose glass windows were damaged. The taxi driver and the foreign man who was later identified only as Mr. BASEM, 31, an Egyptian national, were waiting for police at the scene.

The taxi driver told police that he picked up the Egyptian man from Patong to Bang Tao. They agreed on a 450-baht taxi fee. When they arrived at the destination, the Egyptian asked to use the taxi driver’s mobile phone to call his friend. However, he allegedly refused to give back the mobile phone before allegedly throwing the mobile phone. The Egyptian man then allegedly attacked the taxi driver and used an iron pole to hit his taxi car.

The incident was witnessed by local residents nearby. The Egyptian man was taken to a hospital for a mental health check. His family and embassy are being informed of the incident.
