CCSA: Thailand reports 808 domestic infections among 819 new Coronavirus cases, with vast majority in Samut Sakhon

National –

Thailand discovered 808 domestic infections among 819 new Covid-19 Coronavirus cases, with a vast majority in Samut Sakhon found during active case finding, CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin announced this morning, January 27th.

A total of 714 proactive cases were discovered in 711 migrant workers and 3 Thai nationals among a number of 11,075 workers in industrial factories in Samut Sakhon. They are now at state quarantine and field hospitals under the supervision of provincial public health authorities with no exposure to the general population. Nearly all are completely asymptomatic.

The 92 domestic infections were found in Samut Sakhon with 78, Bangkok 6, Samut Songkram 1, Phetchaburi 1, Nonthaburi 1, Narathiwat 1, Pathum Thani 1, Ang Thong 1, Samut Prakan 1, and Chanthaburi 1. Two additional patients were found during active cases finding in Rayong and Samut Prakan.

As of today, most provinces are moving down the scale of the CCSA’s level of control and surveillance due to the fewer domestic infections. The highly controlled provinces have been reduced from 5 provinces to only Samut Sakhon while the controlled provinces have been reduced from 23 provinces to only four in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani. (Technically, this is a draft proposal as the restrictions around these provinces would only be lifted after a final meeting with the CCSA set for Friday.)

Dr. Taweesin also stated at the daily press briefing that the CCSA big meeting this Friday, January 29th, will be considering and make a final decision on further relaxation of Covid-19 measures in various provinces, particularly on provinces with decreasing numbers of local transmissions.

Some of the proposals include the extension of opening hours of restaurants until 11:00 P.M. and the reopening of schools in several provinces. Some provinces will also be considered to be downgraded regarding the CCSA’s level of control and surveillance of the spread of Covid-19.
