Bangkok –

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan confirmed today, January 4, that according to him no illegal gambling dens were believed to be in Bangkok and no illegal immigrant workers were being smuggled there during the second outbreak of Covid-19 in Thailand.

General Prawit gave an interview this afternoon, regarding the tightening measures to control the spread of Covid-19. He also thanked the public to follow health measures and cooperate with the government to take care of the situation.

When being asked if there were more reports of migrant workers being smuggled into the country, the General insisted that there are no reports at the moment because the border patrols and more military forces are deployed to monitor the border areas across the country tightly, which according to him the government has always done.

“We urged Thai people to take care of themselves at all times and kindly cooperate with the government to improve the Covid-19 situation in the country,” he added.

Prawit also mentioned that he had no idea about one of the latest Covid-19 infections in Bangkok, reportedly from a gambling den. He also insisted at the end of the interview that there are no gambling dens because it is illegal and the local police have always been taking care of the issue.

Comments on Thai social media appeared to disagree with the General’s statements, with some citizens stating that, according to them, this was incorrect although definitive proof one way or the other was not provided.
