The following is a weekly feature, published every Sunday/Monday, that highlights the top five LOCAL stories in Pattaya as chosen by our editorial team for the prior week. The stories are in no particular order and are chosen based on what we feel are the five most important stories for local readers. We publish on an average day over fifteen articles so once a week we go through dozens of weekly content pieces to find what YOU should know each week. We also publish a top five National list every Monday night/Tuesday morning.

The following is for the week of September 13 to September 19, 2020 in no particular order of importance.

1. Pattaya City pledges to fix long-time flooding problem on the “Dark-side” along railway road

Pattaya City has pledged to fix multiple major drainage and flooding issues on the dark side along the railway road area near Soi Khao Talo. This area tends to flood dramatically after every storm and has been in the news for having vehicles swept away as well. However, there is no timeframe and the actual fix could be a ways away.  Learn more below.

2. A staff member at an animal park in Pattaya was seriously injured when a tiger attacked him during feeding time

A 32 year old animal trainer at a Pattaya area animal park, that is still closed due to lack of foreign tourists, was seriously injured last week when a tiger he was feeding attacked him.  The incident caused many to question keeping animals like this at parks that are primarily used to entertain tourists.

3. A Pattaya area resident has offered 100,000 baht to find her missing cat

A local resident is offering 100,00 baht to find her daughter’s missing cat in the Nong Pla Lai area of Pattaya. The offer has reportedly caused many people, including local Thai residents, to drive around the area searching for the cat.

4.  The popular Pattaya Wonderfruit festival has been postponed for a year. 

In sad news, one of the most popular music, art and culture festivals in Thailand has decided to postpone their popular Christmas time festival that attracts thousands until next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and impact on many of their artists and regular attendees not being able to visit due to closed borders in Thailand.

5. Pattaya releases large list of events for the rest of the year, including fireworks festival

In good news, however, Pattaya City is moving ahead with most of their postponed events for the rest of the year. It is worth noting that these are intended mostly for domestic tourism.
