Thailand added to UK’s ‘quarantine-free’ travel corridor list, effective this Saturday

National –

Thailand has made it on to England’s ‘travel corridor’ exemption list which allows Thai tourists and visitors coming from Thailand to travel to the country without 14 days of self-isolating, effective tomorrow at 10:00 AM. (Indochina Time).

The following statement has been announced on the UK Department for Transport website earlier today, September 18, stating that Thailand, along with Singapore, had been added to the government’s travel corridor list following a decrease in confirmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The so-called ‘travel corridor’ was first announced by the UK government on 10 July. Many countries, territories, and regions have been added or removed to this list depending on their number of cases and deaths, testing capacity, and how much the virus has spread in the community.

Natapanu Nopakun, the Deputy Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the exemption list gives a positive aspect to Thailand as its potential to curb the national spread of Covid-19 has been internationally recognized.

The list will also allow Thai entrepreneurs and students to be able to travel to the country conveniently for business and study purposes as well as British nationals who are returning from Thailand to be excluded from quarantine for 14 days.

However, Thailand has to keep its consistent and strict health measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the country in a long term since the outbreak situation around the world is not yet recovered, the deputy spokesman concluded.

It is important to note, however, this does NOT mean UK Nationals can travel to Thailand without quarantine, added the deputy spokesman.
