All currently quarantined US soldiers test negative, say Thai Disease Control Department

Bangkok-

110 American soldiers visiting Bangkok for upcoming military training exercises in a joint operation with Thailand have tested negative for the Covid-19 Coronavirus, according to the Thai Disease Control Department.

All are staying at alternative state quarantine locations and are strictly prohibited from leaving their rooms or interacting with the general public, added Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

The soldiers arrival in Thailand caused much concern and discussion on Thai social media after a former soldier from Egypt broke his quarantine last month and went shopping in Rayong while positive for Covid-19, sparking a panic.

Dr. Taweesin and other officials, however, insist the circumstances are very different now and every precaution is being taken to ensure the soldiers are disease free and following proper quarantine procedures. He has stated several times the soldiers are not a threat to those in Bangkok or the Rayong area where they arrived.

The soldiers remain in quarantine, having arrived earlier this month, and will face another test near the end of their scheduled quarantine mid month, added Dr. Taweesin.
