Walking Street Entertainment Association asks Pattaya City to continue to allow vehicles to drive through the street

Pattaya-

Operators in the Walking Street area are asking the Pattaya City government to extend a current trial allowing vehicles to go into the street at all hours of the day.

The request to the Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem was led by the president of the Pattaya Walking Street Entertainment Association Mr. Narit Petcharat.

Since the beginning of last month to the end of last month, July 2020, Pattaya City had allowed vehicles to go inside the walking street area as a test.

The request follows after pubs, nightclubs and bars were closed during the COVID-19 situation and reopened again last month. Many businesses remain closed and with no international tourists allowed to visit the level of foot traffic is at a much lower level than in normal circumstances.

The Pattaya Walking Street operators have filed a request to Pattaya city to extend the allowance for vehicles as they want to stimulate economic activity in Walking Street and having traffic makes the area more lively, in their opinion. They are also exploring allowing street parking in front of closed venues for patrons who wish to visit the discos and nightclubs that are open.
