Decision to drop prior charges relating to 2012 hit and run against Vorayuth Yoovidhya proposed to be re-examined, additional charges regarding cocaine proposed to be filed

Bangkok-

A team of prosecutors and experts who were assembled to review the decision by the Office of the Attorney General in regards to a 2012 hit and run case involving Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya have decided the decision to drop the prior charges in the case will be proposed to be re-examined.

Additionally, the committee stated that due to cocaine reportedly found in the system of Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, (which some law enforcement initially claimed was due to dental procedures, which turned out to be incorrect) new charges regarding investigating this offense under the Narcotics Act would also be proposed to be filed to the Office of the Attorney General.

The committee stated in an extensive press conference just moments ago that the decision by Mr. Net Naksuk, Deputy Attorney General, to drop the previous charges was done legally and followed all normal regulations and procedures with the evidence previously available, however failed to take into account testimony from one particular expert.

The expert that the committee stated that the Office of the Attorney General did not consider their testimony in full was Dr. Sathanawichan Wannalak, a professor at the Department of Physics Faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University. He stated that his calculations which he stands by show that Boss was driving at roughly 177 kph.

The charges against Boss were dropped primarily due to the testimony of two witnesses who claimed the opposite and that Boss was driving the speed limit. One of those two witnesses was killed in a motorcycle accident last week. A detailed post mortem has ruled out foul play, according to Chiang Mai officials and law enforcement.

The proposed changes will be suggested to the Office of the Attorney General in order to revive the case and file new charges regarding cocaine reportedly found in Vorayuth’s system as well as to examine the findings of Dr. Sathanawichan. It is important to note that this is a proposal from the panel and not yet an order. However, with the intense public interest in this case it is likely the proposal to review the charges will be accepted by the Office of the Attorney General.
