On Monday, the president of the Hua Hin Bar Beer Club Ms. Punyanuch Woranuch and other representatives of local businesses met with the Hua Hin mayor Nopporn Wuttikul to submit a formal request and letter to the Thai Government and local Governor to allow bars and pubs to reopen immediately as the Covid-19 situation has eased and many other businesses have already reopened.

Most of the bars and pubs in Hua Hin are located in Soi Bintabaht, Soi 80 and Soi 94, which accumulates more than 300 establishments along with its approximately 1,500 employees who are now still jobless.

Ms. Punyanuch explained to the committee that the Hua Hin Bar Beer Club have set guidelines and safety health measures for their customers and will follow strict government regulations such as signing in of every guests entering the establishment, wearing of face masks, social distancing and disinfecting the place every hour.

Most importantly, every bar and pub will close at 10:00 PM until further announcements under the exception trial being applied for.

Mayor Nopporn, who seems to support the measure, will present the letter to the governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan province for immediate consideration to the Thai Government.

The Pattaya News notes that under the current Emergency Decree laws the Governor would need the permission of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration for such an exception. Bars and pubs remain closed nationwide with no immediate date of re-opening.

If Hua Hin, which for the past several weekends has had nearly 90 percent occupancy at local hotels and is steady with domestic tourism, is granted an exception it is likely other tourist areas reliant on nightlife will also request an exception.

In Pattaya, thousands of venues remain closed and well over ten thousand people are estimated out of work due to the closure. An estimated eighty percent of venues in Pattaya are entertainment and hospitality related.
