Thailand Remains on Heavy Rain Alert Through September 27

PRESS RELEASE:

Thailand remains under a heavy rain warning through September 27, with Bangkok, surrounding provinces, and several parts of central and eastern Thailand at risk of very heavy rainfall and flash flooding. A strong low-pressure area over lower central Thailand and Bangkok, combined with a more active southwest monsoon, is expected to keep rain widespread.

Areas under close watch on September 26 include much of central Thailand, Bangkok, and nearby provinces, as well as several locations in the North, Northeast, East, and upper South. The Thai Meteorological Department has warned that very heavy rain may affect areas including Tak, Phetchabun, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sawan, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
Sea conditions are also expected to worsen, with waves of 2 to 3 meters in the upper Gulf of Thailand and upper Andaman Sea and more than 3 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to avoid stormy areas, while small boats in those waters should remain ashore through September 27.

The risk of very heavy rain is expected to ease in some areas tomorrow (Sep 27), but Bangkok and its surrounding provinces will remain under close watch. Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi, and Trat may also see continued heavy rainfall.

The preceding is a press release from the Thai Government PR Department.
