Chonburi Governor and Pattaya Mayor Inspect Second Road Construction Ahead of Weekend Marathon

PATTAYA: Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong and Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet on Wednesday inspected progress on Phase 2 of the Pattaya Second Road resurfacing project, pressing contractors to ready the route for the Amazing Thailand Pattaya Marathon 2026 this weekend.

The inspection took place at 5 p.m. on September 24th. The officials were joined by the mayor’s secretariat team, Benjamas Saengaram Saengwanich of Tri-League (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and staff from Pattaya City’s Engineering Bureau, who briefed the group on the latest work.

The visit focused on the asphaltic concrete overlay along Pattaya Second Road under Phase 2 of the city’s road-surface improvement project. Officials said they wanted the stretch completed and in usable condition before runners take to the course on September 26–27.

Mayor Poramese said the site visit was meant to check readiness before the race, which is expected to draw more than 21,000 participants. After walking the route with the governor, he said the overall condition was orderly and ready to accommodate athletes and visitors arriving in the city.

The Pattaya Marathon has been staged for more than a decade as a sports tourism event. City officials say it helps promote Pattaya, draw visitors, and generate spending for local businesses during race weekend.

The Second Road project covers the corridor from North Pattaya to the Wat Chaimongkol intersection in South Pattaya. It is split into two phases: Phase 1 from Central Pattaya to North Pattaya, and Phase 2 from the South Pattaya intersection to the area in front of Central Pattaya. Phase 2 uses an overlay of asphaltic concrete to create a smoother, safer running and driving surface.

Both phases were originally due for completion by September 17th, 2026. Pattaya City had instructed the contractor to finish on schedule so the road would be ready for the marathon. Officials said continuous heavy rain delayed parts of the work. Additional tasks were also added, including cutting and adjusting manhole covers to match the new road level. The completion date has therefore been extended to October 22nd, 2026.

City officials said they will still manage the race area and provide support for residents, athletes, and tourists so the event can proceed safely and leave a positive impression, as Pattaya continues to promote itself as a sports tourism destination.
