CHON BURI, Thailand: Senior officers of Provincial Police Region 2 met Tuesday with a U.S. Embassy security delegation to coordinate final protection plans for upcoming U.S. Navy ship visits and shore leave in eastern Thailand, starting later this morning, September 2nd.
The meeting was held at 2 p.m. on September 1st, 2026, in the operations meeting room at Provincial Police Region 2 headquarters. Pol. Lt. Gen. Chatchai Surachetphong, commander of Provincial Police Region 2, led the Thai side, joined by Deputy Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Nanthawut Suwannalaong, Administration Division Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Chatri Suksiri, and other senior officers.
They received Lou Pham, deputy assistant attaché of the Force Protection Detachment at the U.S. Embassy in Thailand, and members of his team.
Officials said the talks were for preparing security arrangements for U.S. Navy warships scheduled to berth at Laem Chabang Port and Si Racha Port in Chon Buri, as well as Map Ta Phut Port in Rayong.
A central focus was measures to protect U.S. service members expected to come ashore for rest and recreation in the Chon Buri–Rayong area. Authorities said they wanted all relevant agencies to be able to provide assistance, maintain safety, and give visiting personnel confidence throughout their stay.
Organizers described the meeting as more than a port-call briefing. They said it was part of broader readiness covering security, tourism, the local economy, and bilateral relations.
“When foreign personnel come into the area, safety must come first and a good impression should follow,” the local report said. Officials added that smooth visits depend on proactive work by all agencies so that Chon Buri and Rayong can welcome partner-nation visitors with both security and hospitality.
