PATTAYA: A young couple riding a large scooter lost control and crashed on a rain-slicked highway Saturday afternoon, only to be struck again when a pickup truck also skidded off the road. Six people were injured in the chain-reaction crash on Highway 331.
At about 3:00 p.m. on August 29th, 2026, the Sawang Boribun Thammasathan rescue center in Pattaya received a report that a motorcycle rider had lost control and fallen, injuring two people. Moments later a second crash occurred when a pickup truck veered off course, struck the downed motorcycle and plunged off the road, injuring four more people. The accident happened on Highway 331 shortly before the Pattaya Country Club golf course. Rescue crews rushed to the scene.
Officers found a gray Honda Forza scooter, badly damaged in the woods beside the road. Nearby was a white Toyota Revo pickup, which had also left the roadway. Four people were in the pickup, including the driver.
Rescuers checked all the injured, gave first aid and sent them to a local hospital for fuller examination. In all, six people were hurt: the scooter rider and passenger, and the four occupants of the pickup.
Khwan-narong Matra, 26, the scooter rider, suffered a hip injury. He said he and his girlfriend had gone to make merit at Wat Khao Tabaek and were on their way back when light rain made the road wet and slippery. The scooter lost traction and fell onto the shoulder, injuring both of them.
While they sat waiting for help, he said, the white Toyota Revo lost control, slammed into his motorcycle and went off the road. He counted himself lucky the pickup did not clip him or his girlfriend as they waited nearby; otherwise their injuries could have been far worse.
The passenger was identified as Oraya Uam-phrom, 22. She injured her right arm; rescuers suspected a possible bone injury and took her to the hospital for diagnosis.
Of the four people in the pickup, one had a head injury, two men had abrasions, and the driver complained of back pain. All were treated at the scene and taken to the hospital. Full official names of the pickup occupants were not immediately available.
Huai Yai police later examined the scene, photographed it and towed the vehicles to the station. Both parties will be called in to give further statements so investigators can determine the exact cause and proceed under the law.
Authorities noted that rain had made the road wet and slippery at the time of the crash. Motorists were urged to slow down, keep a safe following distance, turn on headlights and take extra care, especially on curves and where water pools on the pavement, to avoid similar accidents.
