CHONBURI, Thailand: Approximately 1,000 residents of Koh Chan district in Chonburi province gathered on Sunday afternoon to voice strong opposition to a proposed biomass power plant, citing potential threats to their community, health, and the environment.
The rally took place at 5:00 p.m. on August 23rd, 2026, at the Tha Boon Mee Subdistrict Administrative Organization office in Koh Chan district. Local residents and people from nearby areas joined the demonstration to express their views and monitor the project’s progress.
The atmosphere was energetic as participants united in declaring their firm rejection of the biomass power plant. They urged relevant authorities to carefully listen to public opinions and concerns before advancing any further stages of the project.
Member of Parliament Anan Preedasuttijit attended the gathering to hear residents’ feedback. He stated that discussions with villagers revealed a clear consensus: the community does not want the biomass power plant in the area. Residents are particularly worried about possible impacts on their way of life, health, and the local environment.
A key issue raised by protesters is the project’s proposed location, which sits close to residential communities, homes, schools, hospitals, and shops. Villagers fear that if the project proceeds, it could degrade the quality of life for those living nearby.
