Banglamung, Thailand: Two fatal motorcycle accidents occurred within less than 20 minutes and under 4 kilometers of each other on the night of August 20th, 2026, claiming two lives on roads in the Banglamung district near Pattaya.
At approximately 10:10 p.m., Pol. Lt. Col. Prakasit Phaladej, investigation inspector at Huai Yai Police Station, received a report of a motorcycle rider colliding with the rear of an 18-wheel trailer truck. The incident took place on Highway 331 in the Khao Mai Kaew subdistrict near the Pattaya Country Club golf course. Rescue teams from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya City and medical personnel from Pattaya Hospital responded urgently.
The road section was relatively dark with insufficient lighting. A white Honda Wave motorcycle bearing temporary red plates 11-0443 had slammed violently into the rear of the trailer and remained lodged there. Nearby lay the body of Ms. Ratchanee Singkhampong, 34, from Udon Thani province, who had suffered severe head trauma. Rescuers and doctors performed CPR in an attempt to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities secured the area and covered the body pending further procedures.
The truck involved was a Mitsubishi Fuso 18-wheeler. Driver Mr. Korakot Techaai, 39, remained at the scene and gave a statement to the police. He said one of his tires had blown out, prompting him to pull over to the roadside, set out traffic cones, and activate warning lights. Another vehicle was also stalled in front of his truck after failing to start. While he was repairing his vehicle at the front, he heard a loud impact from the rear, discovered the crashed motorcycle and the injured rider, and immediately called for help.
The night’s tragedies continued. Less than 20 minutes later, police and rescue workers received a second report of a motorcycle rider striking the rear of a truck, this time resulting in another death. The second crash occurred less than 4 kilometers from the first site, on the road approaching Wat Pong Saket on the inbound side toward Bo Win, in the Takhian Tia subdistrict.
Responders found a cream-colored Honda Lead motorcycle, plate 1 กท 9878 (Phichit), with its front severely damaged after colliding hard with the rear of a truck. Beside it lay the body of an unidentified Thai man estimated to be about 35 years old; no identification documents were found on him. He was already dead at the scene. Police and medical examiners were summoned.
The second vehicle was an Isuzu truck . Its driver, who declined to give his name to the press, stated that he was traveling in the far-right lane and preparing to make a U-turn when the motorcycle rider approached from behind on a poorly lit stretch of road and struck the rear of his truck with full force. He stopped, checked the rider, found him unconscious, and called for emergency assistance.
Police are reviewing closed-circuit television footage, witness accounts, and conditions at both scenes to determine the exact causes. Investigators are examining whether the trucks were parked in a manner that obstructed traffic or displayed adequate warning signals, as well as the motorcyclists’ driving behavior prior to the crashes.
