Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngamphichet on Thursday inspected progress on the asphalt concrete resurfacing of Pattaya Second Road, urging contractors to complete the work by the contractual deadline of September 17th to ensure the route is ready for the upcoming Pattaya Marathon.
Accompanied by his secretarial team and working group, the mayor visited the site near the Wat Chai Mongkol intersection in South Pattaya at 1:30 p.m. The project, which began active work on Aug. 14th, covers the stretch from North Pattaya to the Wat Chai Mongkol intersection in South Pattaya. Officials from the city’s engineering office provided updates during the visit.
Mayor Poramese said Phase 1, running from Central Pattaya to North Pattaya, is approximately 50% complete using a recycling method. Phase 2, from the South Pattaya intersection to the area in front of Central Pattaya, is about 10% finished and employs an overlay technique with asphalt concrete. Officials chose the overlay approach to conserve the budget, as the existing road surface remains in relatively good condition.
Both phases are contractually due for completion by Sept. 17th, 2026. The mayor stressed that contractors must meet this deadline to support the Pattaya Marathon scheduled for late September, the 26th and 27th. Failure to do so will result in penalties as stipulated in the agreement. During the inspection, the mayor also listened to reports of issues such as noise from metal grates and pledged that the city will address them promptly once construction finishes.
He further clarified public confusion regarding the installation of new streetlight poles. These form part of a broader project to underground power lines along nine roads in Pattaya. Work on Pattaya Second Road has already been completed in that regard, necessitating new lighting poles to replace those removed along with cluttered communication cables. The streetlight installation is expected to finish by the end of the year.
Mayor Poramese instructed contractors to continue regular watering to suppress dust and minimize impacts on residents and tourists. He also directed the placement of traffic signs and close coordination with traffic police from the Pattaya City Police Station and municipal enforcement officers to ease congestion and reduce disruptions as much as possible.
“The City of Pattaya apologizes for any inconvenience caused during this project,” the mayor said. Residents experiencing problems or inconvenience can report them around the clock via the hotline 1337 in English or Thai.
Looking ahead, Pattaya remains committed to upgrading road surfaces and sidewalks across all routes in the city.
