At 10:00 a.m. today, Pattaya City Mayor Mr. Poramese Ngamphichet welcomed Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Mr. Otaka Masato and his delegation in Meeting Room 132 at Pattaya City Hall. The visit was a courtesy call combined with a study tour of waste management operations in Pattaya City and on Koh Larn as reported earlier.
Deputy Mayors Mr. Manoch Nongyai and Mr. Damrongkiat Phinitkan, the Chairman of the Mayor’s Advisors, the Mayor’s secretariat team, Pattaya City Council members, the secretariat team of the City Council President, the Mayor’s working team, and heads of relevant government departments joined in extending a warm welcome.
The Japanese Ambassador and his team planned to observe and exchange knowledge on Pattaya’s integrated waste management system. The visit sought to deepen understanding of overall waste handling in the Pattaya area and on Koh Larn, while examining best practices in collection, separation, treatment, and related processes for potential adaptation to conditions in Japan and Japanese islands popular with tourists.
Mayor Poramese outlined Pattaya’s long-standing emphasis on waste management, particularly on Koh Larn. The city recently completed construction of the Integrated Community Solid Waste Management Center, which officially opened on April 10th, 2026. The project’s core focuses on sustainable disposal through modern incineration technology capable of processing up to 50 tons of waste per day, while strictly maintaining environmental standards. He described the facility as a clear and concrete achievement under Goal 3 of the BETTER PATTAYA policy during the past administrative year.
During the meeting, the Mayor and executives also demonstrated the operation of electric waste collection vehicles. He then assigned Deputy Mayors Manoch Nongyai and Damrongkiat Phinitkan to accompany the Ambassador’s delegation to Koh Larn for a site visit to the integrated waste management center.
