Thai Oil Public Company Limited (Thai Oil) joined hands with Khao Kheow Open Zoo under the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand to celebrate the third birthday of “Nong Top,” a charismatic male southern white rhinoceros who has captured the hearts of visitors.
Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, led the celebration titled “Birthday Gifts for Nong Top: White Rhino at Khao Kheow Open Zoo Turns 3.” Mr. Srisak Sukchum, Assistant Director of the zoo, delivered the objectives of the event, while Ms. Apichaya Nuyuth, Public Relations Officer from Thai Oil’s refinery, represented the company and reaffirmed its commitment to wildlife conservation.

On behalf of Thai Oil, Ms. Apichaya presented Nong Top with a special birthday cake made entirely of vegetables and fruits, along with a set of enrichment toys designed to stimulate natural behaviors. The Environmental Enrichment items include food-hiding devices and play objects that encourage the young rhino to express species-typical behaviors, thereby supporting both his physical and mental well-being in line with modern animal welfare standards.

“Nong Top,” born on July 15th, 2023, to father “Sudee” and mother “Silla,” represents a breeding success for Khao Kheow Open Zoo in its efforts to propagate the southern white rhinoceros. The species is currently classified as Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN Red List, with an estimated wild population of only 15,000 to 20,000 individuals remaining.
Visitors joined zoo staff and company executives in the warm, festive atmosphere to wish Nong Top a happy birthday.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo invites the public to visit Nong Top in the African animal exhibit area to admire his playful, endearing, and lively personality every day and to join in ongoing efforts to protect endangered species.
