Chonburi, Thailand – Thai authorities have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of running an illegal online gambling operation from a residential property in Chonburi province, part of an ongoing crackdown on web-based betting sites during the FIFA World Cup period.
The raid took place at 7:00 a.m. on July 14th, 2026, at a house in Moo 1 in Nong Tamleung in Phan Thong.
During the search, officers arrested Mr. Weerawong (surname withheld), 26, while he was actively using computer equipment to facilitate online gambling. They seized an assembled desktop computer, mobile phones, ATM cards, and various electronic devices used to operate the betting platform.
The suspect faces charges of jointly organizing, facilitating, advertising, or inducing others to participate in unauthorized online gambling through electronic media, in violation of Thai gambling laws.
Authorities said the operation stemmed from intelligence reports indicating that a group was illegally providing online gambling services in Thailand’s eastern region. The residence had been converted into an operational hub equipped with high-speed internet, computers, and supporting devices. Investigations revealed that the platform had handled transactions exceeding 20 million baht.
Officers stated that the suspect was caught in the act using the equipment. Preliminary findings suggest additional accomplices may be involved. Police plan to expand the investigation by tracing financial flows, identifying website owners, system administrators, and any other connected individuals for further legal action.
The arrest is part of a continued effort by the Cyber Center to suppress online gambling activities, which typically surge during major football tournaments.
