U-Tapao Airport carried out its annual emergency response exercise on Friday, simulating an aircraft incident to strengthen the facility’s readiness for both military and commercial aviation operations.
Rear Admiral Phithak Theptha Thongpricha, Commander of Naval Aviation under the Naval Battle Force, ran the drill, which took place at the U-Tapao Naval Air Station.
The exercise was designed to elevate the airport’s overall preparedness. U-Tapao serves a dual role as a military airbase and a growing international commercial airport handling both domestic and overseas flights. The primary goal was to ensure that all involved agencies could respond correctly, swiftly, and effectively in the event of an aircraft emergency or accident.
Key objectives included deepening participants’ understanding of emergency procedures, sharpening practical skills for real-world scenarios, improving inter-agency coordination, and minimizing potential loss of life, property, and operational capability.
Officials described the drill as highly successful, fully achieving its intended objectives. Participants gained valuable hands-on experience and lessons that will be used to further refine emergency response plans.
The exercise is expected to enhance U-Tapao Airport’s ability to safely handle both state and civilian aircraft in line with international standards, while building greater confidence among passengers, airlines, and everyone involved in airport operations.
