Pattaya Songthaew Cooperative Suspends Driver for 7 Days After Overcharging Fare by 300 Baht

The Pattaya Transportation Cooperative has ordered a 7-day suspension for a songthaew driver after a complaint of overcharging passengers by 300 Baht, (normally 15 Baht for most distances) and has forwarded the case for legal action.

On July 6th, 2026, at 10:00 AM, Mr. Thongchai Sukhochai, President of the Pattaya Transportation Cooperative Limited, revealed that after learning of a complaint circulating on social media about a songthaew driver charging fares far above the legal rate, the cooperative immediately summoned the driver for an investigation.

After reviewing the case, the cooperative issued a disciplinary penalty by suspending the use of the vehicle, requiring it to be parked at the Pattaya Transportation Cooperative for 7 days. The matter and the driver have also been referred to the Chonburi Provincial Transport Office for further legal proceedings under the Land Transport Act.

Mr. Thongchai stated that the Pattaya Transportation Cooperative apologizes to the affected passengers and the public for the incident, which has caused dissatisfaction with public transportation services. He affirmed that the cooperative will urgently improve its oversight measures and strictly instruct all drivers to adhere to the regulations and fare rates set by law.

The cooperative also said that it will accept all feedback and suggestions from the public, while giving opportunities to employees who perform their duties honestly and correctly. Those who violate the rules will be dealt with transparently according to the law and the cooperative’s regulations, in order to build continued public confidence in the service.
