Police in Banglamung district are investigating the suspicious death of a 34-year-old British man and reported cannabis farm owner who was found stabbed in the bathroom of a rented luxury villa in the Nongprue area of Pattaya, and his young British wife has been detained as a person of interest. She has initially claimed her husband injured himself but police are skeptical.
Pol. Lt. Col. Siriyaphon Kongphet-sak, deputy investigation officer at Nong Prue Police Station, responded to a report of a foreign national found dead from stab wounds inside a house in Village No. 4 in the Nong Prue sub-district. A team of detectives, forensic officers, tourist police, a duty doctor, and rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya rushed to the scene.
The victim was identified as Thomas David, a 34-year-old British businessman reportedly operating a large cannabis farm in the Banglamung area. His body was discovered lying inside the bathroom of the master bedroom, near the shower area. He had a single stab wound under the left side of his chest. The body had been arranged with a pillow under the head and covered with a grey towel. Extensive bloodstains soaked the area, and officers estimated he had been dead for at least six hours.
Forensic teams found bloodstains scattered throughout the house and signs of a struggle. Officers also located Isabelle, 21, the victim’s British wife, sitting beside the body. She appeared dazed and under the influence of cannabis, with minor cuts on her fingers from a sharp object. She repeatedly claimed her husband had injured himself.
Violet led police to a long-bladed spatula knife, approximately 50 cm in length, placed in the kitchen sink. The blade had been thoroughly washed. Police have seized the weapon for forensic examination.
A 33-year-old British man named Charlie, a friend and business associate of the deceased, was the first to enter the property. He told police he received an urgent call from the victim’s business partner in the United States, who had been unable to contact Thomas and feared something was wrong.
Upon arrival, Charlie recorded video footage before entering. He discovered blood throughout the house and found Violet sitting with the body. She was repeatedly claiming her husband had harmed himself. Charlie immediately called the police.
Local residents said the couple had rented the single-storey villa, roughly 80 square wah (about 320 sq m) in size, for only about two weeks at a monthly rent of 85,000 baht. Neighbours frequently heard loud arguments between the pair.
On the night before the incident, around 10:00 pm, residents heard dogs barking loudly at the back of the house but no one investigated. At approximately 2:00 am, someone delivered dog food, but nobody came out to receive it. The situation only came to light when Charlie arrived in the morning.
Investigators have taken Violet into custody for further questioning. Forensic teams are collecting fingerprints and DNA samples. Officers expressed doubts about her claim that the death was self-inflicted, citing several inconsistencies:
– No immediate call for emergency help despite her presence at the scene.
– Blood drag marks suggesting the body may have been moved into the bathroom.
– Her intoxicated state and the cleaned knife.
Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from inside the house to determine the exact circumstances.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to establish the full facts surrounding Thomas David’s death.
