Pattaya, Thailand– Pattaya City is set to launch a major road improvement project on Pattaya Second Road starting July 8th, 2026, with officials urging businesses and residents to cooperate by refraining from roadside parking during construction.
On June 30th, Dr. Siwach Boonkerd, Deputy City Clerk of Pattaya, chaired a preparatory meeting at Pattaya City Hall. The session brought together representatives from the City Engineering Office, contractors, and local business operators to outline the project timeline, construction methods, and strategies to reduce impacts on traffic and commerce.
The project will cover a 3.35-kilometer stretch of Pattaya Second Road, from the Wat Chai Mongkol intersection to the Dolphin Roundabout in North Pattaya. Work is scheduled to take 90 days and will be divided into two phases: the section from South Pattaya intersection to Central Pattaya shopping center, and the segment from Central Pattaya to the Dolphin Roundabout.
Contractors will employ a recycling method to upgrade the asphalt concrete surface. The existing road surface will be removed to a depth of approximately 8 centimeters before a new 20-centimeter layer is laid, ensuring the overall road level remains unchanged and avoiding the need to adjust manhole covers or other infrastructure. Construction will proceed on one side of the road at a time, with at least one traffic lane kept open in each direction to ease congestion.
City officials are calling on business operators to avoid parking vehicles in front of their premises throughout the construction period to allow work to proceed smoothly and safely. Authorities believe the phased approach and traffic management measures will keep disruptions to travel and local businesses to a minimum.
Dr. Siwach discussed the need for all agencies to prepare contingency plans for emergencies, including heavy rainfall or the transport of urgent medical patients. He also instructed the Engineering Office to coordinate with contractors on producing graphic public information materials. These will be distributed through the City’s Public Relations Department and tourism and business networks to ensure residents and visitors receive clear updates on road closures and openings.
The project forms part of Pattaya’s ongoing efforts to enhance road infrastructure and improve the overall driving experience in the popular tourist city.
