CHONBURI — The Tha Bun Mee Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Chonburi Province hosted the traditional “Tha Bun Mee Buffalo Race” on Sunday as part of a project to promote and develop local tourist attractions.
The event took place at 11:00 a.m. on June 28th, 2026, at Rachalothon Beach by the Khlong Luang Rachalothon Reservoir — a royal-initiated reservoir — in Tha Bun Mee Subdistrict. Mr. Anan Preeda Suthichit, Member of the House of Representatives for Chonburi Province’s District 5, led the opening ceremony.
Mr. Somyot Panas Anusorn, Mayor of the Tha Bun Mee Subdistrict Administrative Organization, delivered the report on the project. He explained the organization’s commitment to preserving local culture and traditions.
“The Tha Bun Mee Subdistrict Administrative Organization recognizes the importance of local customs and traditions as valuable cultural heritage passed down by our ancestors,” Mr. Somyot said. “We have worked to revive and sustain the Tha Bun Mee Buffalo Race tradition since 2023.”
The revival of the event has received strong support from buffalo conservation groups, with participants bringing animals from neighboring districts. Local residents, farmers, and community members gathered for the lively competition, which combined entertainment with cultural preservation.
Organizers said the buffalo race is to maintain and pass on valuable Thai traditions to younger generations, while promoting cultural tourism and boosting the local economy in Tha Bun Mee Subdistrict. The event also seeks to instill pride in local identity and encourage community participation in sustainable cultural tourism.
The tradition, rooted in the agricultural lifestyle of the region, serves as both a cultural legacy and an attraction that shows the unique way of life inherited from ancestors. Officials expressed hope that the annual event will continue to strengthen community bonds and contribute to long-term cultural and economic sustainability.
