Pattaya, June 5th, 2026— Large numbers of residents descended on Jomtien Beach this morning carrying sacks and plastic buckets to collect Asian green mussels and razor clams that were washed ashore by strong waves.
The shellfish were scattered along the entire stretch of beach in front of Village 12.
Mr. Champ, a well-known Jomtien Beach umbrella and deck chair operator, was among those gathering the seafood. He collected a large quantity of mussels, took them home, steamed them, and enjoyed the dish with a spicy seafood dipping sauce. He showed the prepared meal to The Pattaya News reporters and confirmed that the mussels are safe and edible.

“This phenomenon happens once a year, usually during the monsoon season,” Mr. Champ explained. “This year the mussels are noticeably larger than in previous years.”
He added that since early morning, many local people had come to collect the shellfish, with most managing to take home several tens of kilograms each. Some collectors reportedly gathered as much as 100 kilograms.

The sight of residents happily filling bags with fresh seafood created a lively atmosphere along the beach throughout the morning.
This annual event provides a welcome free bounty for local families during the rainy season.
