Pattaya, Thailand – May 14th, 2026: Torrential rain hammered Pattaya for more than an hour in the early hours of Thursday, triggering flash floods across multiple low-lying areas of the city and disrupting traffic in the middle of the night.
According to local reports, the downpour began around 1:30 AM on May 14th in the Nongprue subdistrict of Banglamung district. Heavy thunderstorms caused rapid water accumulation, particularly in known flood-prone zones.
Severely affected locations included Soi Khao Noi, Soi Khao Talo, the road running alongside the railway behind Wat Thammasamakkhi, South Pattaya Sukhumvit Road, Third Road, and several secondary streets. Water levels rose quickly, making it difficult for small vehicles to pass. Traffic slowed considerably as drivers exercised extreme caution.
Several cars and motorcycles were reported stalled in floodwaters, with engines flooding and suffering damage while attempting to navigate the inundated roads. This left late-night commuters stranded and frustrated.
Fortunately, once the rain eased, floodwaters began receding within less than an hour, allowing conditions to return to normal relatively quickly. However, many Pattaya residents expressed disappointment over the recurring issue.
Locals have repeatedly complained that flooding occurs every time there is heavy rainfall, describing it as a persistent problem that has yet to be resolved. They are now urging relevant authorities to urgently and seriously upgrade the city’s drainage system to provide a long-term solution and minimize future impacts.
