PATTAYA, Thailand – A black Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by a Chinese national lost control on a major highway near Pattaya late Thursday night, slammed into a plastic construction barrier, flipped onto its roof, and sent debris flying into a road worker, leaving three people seriously injured.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. on May 7th, 2026, on Highway 331 (towards Rayong) in the area opposite the Bira Circuit racing track in Tambon Huai Yai. Rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation’s Pattaya radio center were dispatched after receiving reports of a vehicle that had overturned with people trapped inside.

Upon arrival, rescuers found the luxury Mercedes-Benz lying upside down in the middle of the road with its wheels pointing skyward. Inside were two Chinese nationals: The driver, Mr. Hu Jonfeng, 29, who sustained moderate injuries, and an unidentified female passenger who was seriously hurt. Both were extricated and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
A third victim, Mr. La-iat Pho Bun Pluk, 45, a road crew member installing warning lights and traffic signals at a nearby road repair site, was struck by a flying plastic barrier after the speeding Mercedes slammed into it. He suffered serious injuries while performing his duties on the roadside.

The head of the road repair crew who was working at a different area some distance from the accident told The Pattaya News reporters that he was initially unaware of the details until one of his team members called to say a colleague had been hit. Upon reaching the scene, he saw that the luxury car had plowed into the barrier, causing it to catapult into Mr. La-iat.
Police secured the scene, took photographs for evidence, and are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash. All three injured individuals remain hospitalized. Authorities plan to question the driver and other involved parties once they are fit for interviews to proceed with legal proceedings.
