Heavy Criticism Over Viral Video of Tourist’s Dangerous Stunt on Pattaya Songthaew That Ends in Fall

Pattaya, Thailand – Social media users have strongly condemned a foreign tourist after a video surfaced showing him performing a risky acrobatic stunt on the roof of a moving songthaew (two-row passenger truck) along Pattaya Beach Road, which ended with him crashing hard onto the street.

The clip, shared by the Facebook page “อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทิร์น พาร์ท 7” (Want Fame? We’ll Make It Happen – Return Part 7), shows the tourist hanging from iron bars on the roof of the vehicle before attempting a mid-air somersault. Friends on board can be heard cheering him on as he flips.

However, the daredevil act went wrong when the man lost his balance upon landing. He slammed onto the road with significant force, prompting screams of shock from his companions. Rather than expressing sympathy, many online commenters criticized the behavior as reckless and inappropriate, with common reactions including “This shouldn’t be done” and calls for greater personal responsibility.

The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on May 4th on Pattaya Beach Road. Witnesses reported that the tourist was able to stand up on his own shortly after the fall, sustaining only minor injuries, including a cut on his forehead. His friends assisted him, and the group left the scene without seeking medical help or reporting the incident.

A local songthaew driver, Mr. Sakdisit Thongmaen, 59, who spoke to The Pattaya News reporters about the event, said such reckless behavior by tourists is unfortunately common, especially late at night.

“Incidents like this happen frequently with tourist groups,” he noted. “It creates problems for drivers because if an accident occurs, the driver could face legal liability even if they weren’t directly at fault.”

The video has sparked wider discussion about tourist safety and conduct in Pattaya’s nightlife areas, with many urging visitors to avoid dangerous stunts that could result in serious injury or disrupt public order.
