Pattaya, May 4th, 2026 – Pattaya authorities detained a foreign man early Monday morning after he allegedly became violently intoxicated, exposed himself to officers, refused to pay a 2,500-baht bar bill, and attempted to flee toward Pattaya Beach, followed by resisting arrest, and berating and insulting police and municipal officers

At approximately 00:19 on May 4th, officers from Pattaya City’s Special Affairs Division and Municipal Officers responded to a report from the owner of a beachfront beverage shop. The owner claimed a foreign customer had consumed drinks and refused to settle the bill.

Upon arrival, officers escorted the man, who identified himself as a 35-year-old Moroccan national but carried no identification documents and officers were skeptical if he was actually Moroccan, to Pattaya City Police Station. During the journey, the suspect, showing clear signs of severe intoxication or possible drug influence, became highly aggressive. He shouted loudly, resisted control, and repeatedly warned officers not to touch him while cursing them and their mothers.

While being taken into the station near the entrance of the access road, the man suddenly allegedly exposed his private parts toward the officers, then violently broke free and fled toward Pattaya Beach.

Officers pursued and eventually apprehended him on the main road at the entrance to Soi 12, Pattaya Beach. The suspect continued to resist arrest, leading to a chaotic 10-minute struggle in full view of numerous tourists driving and walking along the beachfront. Many bystanders stopped to watch and record the incident on their phones.

Despite attempts by police patrol units to calm him through negotiation, the man remained combative. Officers were eventually forced to use physical force to subdue him, handcuff him, and transport him back to Pattaya City Police Station.

At the station, the suspect continued shouting incoherently and claimed he had already paid 1,000 baht for the drinks while continuing to insult and berate police officers and resist all attempts to be calmed down. He was held in custody until his condition stabilized for formal questioning.

Meanwhile, a Thai woman claiming to be the shop owner arrived at the station to file a complaint regarding the unpaid bill exceeding 2,500 baht. However, she did not provide a receipt or other evidence at the time. Police advised her to submit proper documentation to support any legal proceedings.

The incident caused significant disruption in the popular tourist area. Authorities said the man remains in custody and will face multiple charges once he is sober and further investigation is completed. The incident has caused major discussion on Thai language media with many commenters claiming the current relaxed entry visa policy has led to situations like this.
