Pattaya Mayor Praises Highly Successful “Wan Lai/Songkran Pattaya 2026” Festival as Crowds Exceed 100,000 People and Economic Boost Surpasses an Estimated 1.5 Billion Baht

Pattaya, Chonburi

Pattaya City Mayor Poramese Ngampichet, popularly known as “Pee Beer” (Brother Beer), expressed strong satisfaction with the resounding success of the “Wan Lai Pattaya 2569” (2026) festival, which drew massive crowds and generated significant economic activity during the tail end of the Songkran holiday period.

The three-day water festival, held from April 17 to 19, 2026, along Pattaya Beach in Chonburi province, transformed the iconic beachfront into an exciting celebration zone featuring water fights, live concerts, cultural performances, hundreds of food and clothing vendors, and multiple entertainment stages. On the BIG day of April 19th, authorities closed a 3-kilometer stretch of Beach Road from the Dolphin Roundabout to the Walking Street area to accommodate the water revelry safely.

Mayor Poramese stated that the event exceeded expectations, with visitor numbers surpassing 100,000 people over the festival period. The economic spillover, encompassing accommodation, food and beverage sales, local vendor sales, packed Thai and seafood restaurants in particular, transportation, and related services, was estimated at more than 1.5 billion baht, injecting substantial revenue into the local economy.

“Wan Lai Pattaya 2026” was organized along with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Pattaya Office and the Ministry of Culture. The program blended traditional Thai Songkran customs, such as water-pouring rituals, merit-making, and processions, with modern entertainment, including performances by popular artists that ran from midday until midnight. Organizers focused on safety measures alongside the festivities, including road closures and crowd management.

Pattaya’s beachfront drew both Thai and international tourists eager for the signature seaside water fights and vibrant atmosphere. Also of note was Jomtien Beach which also saw tens of thousands of people celebrating, many in pickup trucks happily splashing water and with many music trucks and street parties, and was noticably more intense and busy than prior years.

Local media and officials described the event as one of the largest and most successful Songkran extensions in recent years, helping to extend the holiday tourism season and boost businesses in Pattaya, a key destination in Chonburi province. Reports indicated strong turnout even on the final evening, with visitors enjoying water play and concerts despite some concerns over spending amid economic factors.

The success of Wan Lai Pattaya 2026 shows the city’s ongoing efforts to promote cultural tourism while balancing and stimulating the local economy through large-scale festive events. Although the event doesn’t appeal to everyone, notes The Pattaya News, with some expats barricading themselves in condos or even leaving the country, the sheer numbers of participants and enjoyment show the event is here to stay.
