Thailand has reported a total of 515 accidents, resulting in 486 injuries and 95 fatalities over three days (April 10th – April 12th) of the Songkran Seven Days of Danger Road campaign which runs from April 10 to 16, 2026.
On April 12th, 2026, the third day (April 12th) of the nationwide “Safe Driving, Reduce Speed, Prevent Accidents” initiative, authorities recorded 171 accidents, 169 injuries, and 24 fatalities.
Suphan Buri reported the highest number of accidents (10 cases). Phrae recorded the most injuries (9 people). Bangkok suffered the highest fatalities (3 deaths).
Speeding remained the most significant contributor, accounting for 46.20% of all incidents. Drunk driving followed at 24.56%, showing persistent challenges in curbing alcohol-related crashes during the festive season. Motorcycles were involved in the overwhelming majority of accidents, representing 77.17% of cases.
Most crashes occurred on straight routes (81.29%), particularly on local roads (39.77%) and highways (34.50%). The peak accident period was between 3:01 PM and 6:00 PM (24.56%), coinciding with heavy travel and social activity. Young adults aged 20–29 years were the most affected demographic, making up 22.80% of victims.
In total three days, Lampang led in both cumulative accidents (25 cases) and injuries (25 people), while Bangkok recorded the highest cumulative fatalities (6 deaths). Encouragingly, 30 provinces reported zero fatalities during the period, offering a glimmer of hope amid the grim statistics.
These numbers represent a slight improvement over the same three-day period in 2025, when 100 fatalities were reported amid 756 accidents.
Compared with normal non-holiday conditions, when Thailand averages approximately 38 road deaths per day according to Road Accident Victims Protection Company data, the current Songkran daily average of roughly 32 fatalities (95 deaths over three days) is below the typical baseline and reflects safer early-festival outcomes than in recent prior years.
