The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), has reported a total of 344 accidents, resulting in 317 injuries and 71 fatalities on in two days (April 10th – April 11th) of the Songkran Seven Days of Danger Road campaign which runs from April 10 to 16, 2026.
Lampang reported the highest number of accidents (12 cases) and injuries (14 people). Nakhon Ratchasima and Phitsanulok each recorded the highest fatalities, with three deaths per province.
Despite the grim tally, officials noted that 39 provinces reported zero fatalities, a sign that road safety measures and enforcement are having localized success.
The second day of Thailand’s nationwide road safety campaign, “Drive Safely: Slow Down, Prevent Accidents,” recorded 208 road accidents, leaving 185 injured and 50 dead, according to official statistics.
Excessive speed remained the most common cause, accounting for 45.71% of incidents, followed by drunk driving at 24.76%. Authorities explained that these two behaviors continue to pose the greatest risks despite ongoing awareness efforts.
Motorcycles were involved in the majority of crashes, representing 61% of all accidents. Most incidents occurred on straight roads (79.05%), with nearly half taking place on highways under the Department of Highways (48.56%) and another quarter on local roads within villages and subdistricts (25%).
The peak accident period was between 9:01 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., accounting for 21.90% of cases. The age group most affected was 20–29 years, making up 22.88% of those injured or killed.
