Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Center were left unnerved late on April 5th after a 50-year-old man crashed his motorcycle into the Chag Nok Reservoir and calmly insisted that a woman and a young girl had been riding pillion with him the entire time, only for both to disappear without a trace.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:36 p.m. on April 5th, 2026, when the rescue center received a report of a motorcycle losing control and plunging into the reservoir along the dam road in Village 4 of the Huai Yai Subdistrict. Rescue teams, equipped with lighting gear, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found a purple Honda Wave 100 motorcycle that had veered off the edge of the dam road and fallen into the reservoir, sustaining damage. The rider, identified as Mr. Kunchar Plaengdee, 50, was located nearby with minor abrasions across his body. Rescue personnel provided immediate first aid.
While treating the injured man, rescue workers were stunned when he stated that a 50-year-old woman and a girl no older than 10 had been riding pillion with him at the time of the crash. A team of around ten rescuers immediately began a thorough foot search of the surrounding area, especially the dry sections of the reservoir bed.
Mr. Kunchar told rescuers and reporters that after finishing work, he had been drinking at a karaoke venue in the Huai Yai area with two friends. The woman and child had joined them to chat and keep the group company. After he became heavily intoxicated, he offered to give the pair a ride home since they were heading in the same direction — the woman said she lived near the edge of the Chag Nok Reservoir, while he resided in the Thung Glom – Tan Man area.
He claimed they had been laughing and talking the whole way along the dark, deserted dam road with no other traffic. Then the accident happened. A passing good Samaritan spotted him and called for help. Mr. Kunchar appeared puzzled, repeatedly asking where the woman and child had gone and wondering aloud whether he had been riding alone due to his drunken state.
Rescue volunteer Mr. Suriya Chamnanyoi (call sign 6120) told The Pattaya News reporters that upon receiving the alert about possible missing persons in the reservoir, his team conducted an extensive search on foot. The area had little water at the time, yet no trace of the woman or child was found despite a thorough sweep. The situation created a chilling atmosphere among the rescuers. He noted that the rider appeared heavily intoxicated and declined to speculate on whether something supernatural was involved, adding that they were relieved no additional casualties were discovered.
After the injured man was treated and transported to hospital, some rescuers remained at the scene to guard the motorcycle until police from Huai Yai Station could collect it as evidence. They reported that dogs in the area barked and howled incessantly, adding to the eerie silence and darkness that left several team members feeling unsettled.
No other individuals were reported missing in connection with the incident, and authorities are treating the case primarily as a single-vehicle accident involving alcohol. Police are continuing their investigation and determining if drunk driving charges will take place.
