Pattaya, Huay Yai– In a tragic accident early on Sunday morning, two young women riding a motorcycle slammed into a lowered railway barrier and were thrown onto the tracks, where they were struck and killed by an oncoming freight train carrying crude oil.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:49 a.m. on April 5th, 2026, at the Huai Yai railway crossing in Tambon Na Jomtien. Pol. Lt. Col. Suphan Sophi, an investigator from Na Jomtien Police Station, was notified of the fatal train collision and coordinated with rescue teams from the Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Foundation in Sattahip to respond to the scene.
At the site, officers found a heavily damaged white Honda Giorno motorcycle that had skidded off the road. On the railway tracks heading toward Sattahip, rescuers discovered the first victim’s severely mangled body, later identified as Miss Chinda Souvannalat, a 17-year-old Laotian national.
About one kilometer from the initial impact point, authorities located the freight train which was traveling from Bang Phra toward Huai Khwang Station. During a further search along the tracks, officers found the second victim, another young woman whose identity has not yet been confirmed, deceased at the scene.
The train driver, Mr. Chatchai Wongsongwan Sodsri, 39, told police that the crossing barriers were already lowered when he spotted what appeared to be an object on the tracks. Initially unsure whether it was a person or debris, he continued as the train passed the point.
Officials responsible for the crossing barrier later reviewed CCTV footage, which clearly showed the motorcycle rider accelerating and colliding directly with the lowered barrier. Both the rider and passenger were thrown onto the tracks and were immediately struck by the moving freight train, resulting in their instant deaths.
Police documented the scene with photographs and evidence. The bodies of both victims were transported for full forensic examination, and authorities will contact relatives to proceed with legal and repatriation procedures.
Investigations into the exact circumstances, including the speed of the motorcycle and any contributing factors, are ongoing.
