Pattaya, Chonburi – March 29th, 2026 A public foot wash basin along the popular South Pattaya Beach has fallen into disrepair, with stagnant water, accumulated debris, and a strong foul odor making it unusable and raising concerns among locals and tourists about the impact on the city’s world class family friendly tourism image.
On March 28th, 2026, reporters visited the site following complaints from residents and found the basin filled with standing water that could not be drained properly. Inside, large amounts of sand residue, cigarette butts, general trash, and thick green algae had built up, resulting in a pervasive bad smell that spread across the surrounding area.
The unpleasant odor has caused discomfort for beachgoers and passersby in this high-traffic spot along one of Pattaya’s main tourist beaches.
Mr. Klaharn Phrachandaphut, a resident in the area, told reporters that the problem had emerged significantly recently. “This issue never happened to this level before,” he said. “The stagnant water has started smelling worse day by day.”
Local residents are now urging relevant authorities, such as Pattaya City Hall or beach maintenance officials, to inspect and resolve the problem as soon as possible. They added that the basin is located in a heavily frequented area where large numbers of tourists walk by daily, and prolonged neglect could harm Pattaya’s long-term reputation as a premier beach destination.
Foot wash facilities are common along Thai beaches to help visitors rinse off sand and saltwater before leaving the shore. When poorly maintained, however, they can quickly become sources of nuisance and potential hygiene issues. This station has had maintenance issues before but they were resolved after attention was given to the matter.
No immediate response from city officials had been reported as of the latest checks, but community members hope swift action will restore cleanliness and usability to this public amenity.
